Toxic and corrosive hydrogen fluoride gas can be generated by the reaction of organic acids with metal fluoride salts, especially alkali metal fluorides such as lithium fluoride, sodium fluoride, and potassium fluoride (Rich, G. A., 1993, Dangerous Chemical Reactions, Gulf Publishing Co., Houston, TX, p. 247).
