Hazard Predictions

Organic peroxides can abstract hydrogen radicals from the alkyl groups of siloxanes, especially at elevated temperatures. The alkyl radicals can then react with other materials, especially those containing hydrogen, or with each other. In the chemical industry, this reaction is used to induce cross-linking between silicone polymer strands. (Butts, M., et al. 2002. Silicones. Kirk-Othmer Encyclopedia of Chemical Technology. (Online)).

Inadvertent mixtures with organic peroxides need to be vetted carefully on an individual basis. Caution should be used before proceeding. Further research of comparable examples in the literature or very small scale, carefully controlled experiments may be needed to fully assess compatibility.
