Hazard Predictions

Ethers may contain peroxides which can initiate polymerization in conjugated dienes such as butadiene. Peroxide formation in ethers is a slow process and therefore build up of significant concentrations of peroxides takes a long time. However, the initiation of polymerization may only require small concentrations of the peroxide to initate polymerization. Ether peroxide formation accident histories, safe handling, storage, and disposal can be found in the following papers: Jackson, H. L., at al., J. Chem. Educ., 1970, 47, A175; Davies, A. G., J. R.
