Under appropriate conditions, some reducing agents can cause hydrogen to add across double bonds, which will generate heat. Caution should be used before proceeding. Further research of comparable examples in the literature or very small scale, carefully controlled experiments may be needed to fully assess compatibility.
For weaker reducing agents, an oxidizer needs to be present (a so-called "Redox couple") to cause radical formation and polymerization initiation. This is a common strategy in commercial polymerization processes. The reducer or oxidizer may be incapable of initiating the reaction by themselves.
